7 Types of Sadists in BDSM

In this post, we will be going over the different types of sadists you will find in BDSM along with their motivations.

Before we get into things, I want to point out that not all forms of sadism involve taking pleasure in pain. Instead, think of sadism as taking pleasure in affecting others.

That said, let’s get started—

Service Sadist

“You like that don’t you. It’s just the way you like it isn’t it—I see that smile on your face”

The service sadist is incredibly similar to a Service Top, where the partner affecting the other gets satisfaction for bring their bottom/masochist satisfaction.

This type of sadist is likely to enjoy:

You can also include Soft Doms in this list when you consider the DD/lg dynamics where they may punish their littles, or use “funishment” as a way to fulfill a psychological need both partners get from their interactions.

Disciplinary Sadist

“You choose: the pain of discipline, or the pain of not listening to me. Your move.”

These people use disciplinary sadism to change their partner’s behavior.

This makes sense in that you don’t learn most lessons unless they are painful. The pain and suffering you go through life will always carry meaning in the form of life lessons. This is why “the unexamined life is not worth living”. If you never get past the pain and suffering, you’re not learning your lesson, and that is evidence of an increasingly empty life.

The difference between here and life is that the disciplinarian can actually tell you the lesson you’re meant to learn so you can stop getting punished. Because you can only make a mistake for so long until your honestly just punishing yourself.

Action Sadist

“A pimp can’t help but smile when he sees another pimp handlin’ they hoes. He may be your competition, but a pimp will always love pimpin'”

This is where the sadist takes pleasure from the power they feel in using their tools and from their actions.

This type of sadist is likely to enjoy:

I can relate to this most, where I find it sexy that I’m even using something like a flogger on a partner in the first place. I don’t care much for their pain, or even in their satisfaction. The pleasure I get comes from using the tool on someone else in the first place. If persuasion was a tool, then it’s a tool I find sexy too, despite being a mediocre salesman when I did that work in my early twenties.

Roleplay Sadist

“My favorite part is where I get to destroy all the tiny people and pretend to be God…zilla”

This sadist enjoys affecting their partner through a scene-given role. The implication is that there’s some sort of character motivation that makes the sadistic role enticing.

The following are some examples of this:

Reaction Seeking Sadist

“I like to see my prey squirm.”

This reaction seeking sadist likes seeing how their actions affect their partners. This can mean pain, pleasure, emotional reactions, etc. It’s not limited to any particular agony.

This type of sadist is likely to enjoy:

Tormenting Sadist

“Ah, the sweet taste of crying orphan tears as I convince them that the nice people want to adopt them, all while prepping the couple to adopt the one that had hurt that orphan most”

This sadist loves to torment others and cause them suffering.

This type of sadist is likely to enjoy:

In a real life setting, people who range from very petty to sociopaths love to cause their victims traumatic torment and suffering. Within the context of BDSM, the suffering they cause is much more restrained while still being mutually satisfying for everyone involved.

Make sure you know the difference between BDSM and abuse.

Tyrannical Sadist

“My way. Now. Or else.”

This is the type of sadist that wants to dominate and make their partner feel like they have no choice and that they are less than human.

The Tyrannical Sadist and Tormenting Sadist tend to go well together because they appeal to personalities that are more similar to machiavellian triad types, or people who are carrying very heavy feelings of powerlessness in their personal lives.

Obviously, this type of sadist can be mixed well with the other types, such as the role-play sadist or the disciplinarian. Which would be healthier manifestations of sadistic kink in a more balanced psyche.

There is no limit to the type of sadist you are. Explore what appeals to you, and take the time to give the less-appealing personas a chance.

Remember that each of these are only descriptors that are meant to be helpful and aren’t intended to limit your creativity. Instead they are there to help you understand your motivations and build your kinky self-awareness.
