In this post, we go over what is a Dom/sub contract.
What is a Dom/sub Contract?
A D/s contract is essentially the written result of the Dom and sub’s negotiation. There is no one way to go about it. They are usually non-binding, so you can write them however you want. They usually include the following:
- Pre-agreed upon modes of play (things that the Dom and sub agree are ok to partake in).
- Limits, both soft and hard.
- Words of caution.
- Medical or other conditions that may have an impact on the D/s dynamic or BDSM play.
- Protocols, rituals, and honorifics
- The scope of the power exchange (how far does control extend, is it continuous or limited to specific periods, is it D/s, M/s, and so on).
- Punishment and discipline
- The relationships’ dynamics (duration, exclusivity, contract renewal or renegotiation).
A D/s contract is not used by everyone. Many people rely on verbal bargaining. Contracts, on the other hand, are useful to some people as a record of what was agreed upon. Others include a roleplaying element in the contract, such as signing away rights that they cannot legally sign away.
Keep in mind that if you live in a jurisdiction where your BDSM activities are not legal, a contract could be used against you or your partner as evidence.
