The purpose of High Protocol is to create a set of rules that facilitate the interaction between the Dominant and the sub, and make it possible to connect both mentally and practically.
Etiquette is a part of the High-protocol that pertains specifically to the rules of conduct for the sub.
This is most applicable with lifestylers, where rules and expectations are more detailed and stricter.
What exactly is High Protocol in BDSM?
In general, we can say that the High Protocol covers a wide range of topics, including etiquette.
For example, it can take into account when a couple lives in a vanilla environment and cannot demonstrate the special nature of their relationship.
High Protocol is typically built on the traditions of the Community, club codes, and the personal preferences of the Dom.

Etiquette usually addresses things like the following:
- the behavior of the sub
- the appearance of the sub
- how a sub speaks
- the relationship with their Dom
There are a number of rules that are common to most couples due to tradition.
However, many rules will be based on the unique individuals in the relationship and their experiences with each other.
Some relationships will have rules completely made by the Dominant, which the sub will consent to fulfill to the best of their abilities.
Otherwise, there will be punishment.
