While many people are initially skeptical of hypno play, since it’s largely a guided meditation—it is done in a way where you are given a suggestible state to get into. Erotic hypnosis needs you to relax to allow susceptibility.

Hypnosis is almost like being put into a groggy or sleepy headspace. Sort of like when you’re half awake, and your unconscious dream mind is lightly seeping into reality.
It reduces your ability to perceive things outside your hypno focal point. This makes it easier for you to go into trance.
How deep can the hypnosis be and how long does hypno play last?
It depends entirely on a person’s susceptibility. While some people are readily susceptible and can be snapped into it, others need time to drop into trance. Which can be a factor in duration.
Generally hypno play will last around 30 minutes to an hour. Keep in mind that people use subliminals for hours on end for self-hypnosis that goes beyond kink and sex.
In hypno play, some people can’t get deep enough that they aren’t responsive, while others may experience only subtle trance.
Stages of Hypno Play
Induction – This is the beginning where the hypnotee is starting to relax and getting their inital instructions.
Deepener – Is where the hypnotist will drop your conscious state and bring your subconsious mind forward, and go back and forth, getting you deeper into your trance.
Suggestions – This where you are given suggestive instruction by the hypnotist which will affect your behavior when certain situations constellate.
Emergence – This is where you are pulled out of your trance. If you aren’t pulled out effectively, you will feel a bit scrambled or slightly discombobulated—which will wear off eventually.
How To Vet a Hypnotist for Hypno Play
There is a community of hypnotists on Fetlife that you can look into. Since the community is very consent-heavy, anyone who violates their partner will be outed.
Otherwise, you want to to trust you gut instinct and look for general red flags when you first meet the hypno player in a public setting.
Be careful, because everyone has some trace of susceptibility to hypnotism, and you don’t want to hand your mind over to someone who will abuse it.
You can be taken advantage of emotionally, sexually, monetarily, and in other ways by a terrible person who is a hypnotist.
A skilled hypnotist wants you to challenge them with your skepticality. This reflects their confidence and competence in their abilities, and can be a reflection of their emotional maturity.
What causes sudden breaks from hypno play?
Usually unexpected noise or interuptions can break the trance. Just like in real life—the biggest distractions are going to be people, so keep that in mind when planning your scene and where you’re going to play.
Your intuition will also try to nudge you into breaking the trance if your being senses a red flag. You want to honor your intuition, because it’s trying to save you in some way.
Different Types of Hypno Play
Elman Induction is a step-by-step, gradual way to drop someone into a trance. This is more like guided meditations, or word-less hypnotism like Mindful & Mending’s subliminal archive.
Erikson Induction is more covert, chaotic, conversational ways to drop someone into a trance. An example would be Confusion Induction which can discombobulate the mind by using mental abuse tactic known as “word salad”.
Keep in mind that this should all be consensual.
What hypnosis is better: in-person or digital file?
In-person is better because it’s specifically tailored to you.
Digital files are good in a more broad sense. We’re not talking the free material either.
