The most popular roles you hear about in BDSM are Dominants and submissives. But did you know there are more types of Dominants and submissives?
For example, two of the most common s-types are submissives and slaves. Other submissive types include:
Conceptual Sub
This is the submissive that learns everything they can from the internet, books, romance novels, and erotica on how to be a sub. Although they take an interest in the role or lifestyle, the conceptual sub rarely ever acts out on these desires in real life. Instead, they tend to live out these kinks vicariously through the media they consume.
Romantic Sub
The romantic sub takes comfort in surrendering to a partner whom they love and trust. This subtype wishes to relinquish all control without becoming a slave. They are enamored with the concept of submitting and pouring their hearts into pleasing their Top without regard for the final result.
Bedroom Sub
The bedroom sub likes to express their submission depending on the environment, which in this case, would be the bedroom. This condition implies that this person likes to be submissive for mainly sexual needs. Think of the phrase “bedroom sub” along the same lines as “closeted”, in the sense that their sexuality is kept private.
Servant or Service Sub
The servant, or service sub, gets fulfillment from serving others. These submissives tend to do the cooking, cleaning, laundry, and other services their Dominants want. In terms of personality, these people express their love with acts of service. Not all servants want sex, and some can get the sexual gratification they need just from being useful to their partners.
Sex Slave
The sex slave subtype is highly driven by sexual gratification and orgasms. Many sex slaves tend to have a high tolerance for pain and less commonly practiced kinks. In terms of personality, these folks tend to have very high openness and prefer physical touch as their love language.
Slave
The slave is driven by their emotional need to please their partner. They want to serve and please their Master. If their Dom/me is happy with them then this sub is over the moon. If the Dom/me is upset with this sub then this sub becomes upset. Slaves need to make sure they have their lives in balance since this role can be highly demanding depending on their Dominant.
The S.A.M or Smart Masochists
This is the brat of subs. They provoke tops into Dominating them. In doing this, they can unleash anger and resentment from the Top if they push too far. This sub is driven by punishment and they can see corporal punishment as a sexual need. This type of sub doesn’t always know when to stop.
Alpha Sub
The Alpha sub can be interpreted in a variety of ways. For simplicity, here are two:
One type of Alpha sub is one who dominates others except their Dominant. They can dominate intellectually, physically, through authority, or so on based on their personality. Imagine a power couple where both partners are “alpha” in all aspects of their life, but in private one will submit to the other.
The other type of Alpha sub is typically the “leading submissive” in a poly relationship between a Dominant and other submissives. This is the sub that helps with the other subs. They can also lead the other subs, usually under the direction of their own Dominant.
