A power bottom is a person who is taking control of a scene from the bottom.
Understand that the person who is getting penetrated isn’t automatically the submissive in the context of sex.
In the case of a power bottom, they are dominating the situation by taking charge while also being the one who is on the receiving end of sex.
What EXACTLY is a Power Bottom?
A Power Bottom is someone who is in control of the situation, while in a seemingly submissive position.
The power bottom guides and directs the Top on what to do, how to do it, and how they want it.
For example, a hetero-normative example is a man penetrating a woman as an act of domination; the consensual and erotic underlying dynamic is that she is “being used by him” and he is “in control of her”.
Meanwhile, a “power bottom” scenario would be if that same woman who is being penetrated is instead demanding that her “piece of meat boy-toy” (the man) penetrates her and pleases her the way she likes.
Note: This term is used more often in the context of gay sex. However, any sex can act as a power bottom when they want to.
The concept of Power Bottom is about being in control, despite being in a “bottom” position. Meanwhile, the role opposite of this would be a Service Top.
