Are you looking for a comprehensive flogger guide? You’ve come to the right place!
What is a flogger?
Flogger Meaning: A flogger is an impact toy that is made up of a handle and leather ribbons that can be used to fulfill sado masochistic pleasure.
How long is a flogger?
The length of a typical flogger depends on the measurements of a person’s arm; 18” – 27” typically.
What size flogger should I get?
Generally, you want a flogger that matches the length of your fingertips to your shoulder when you stretch your arm out straight in front of you.
If you are a beginner, you DO NOT want a flogger longer than your arm’s length. You are much more likely to hit yourself, lose control, and get the tails tangled up.
It’s best you use a flogger that is made according to your measurements.
How long should flogger falls be?
The falls (or tails) of your flogger should match about the length of your forearm. Usually, 8” to 22” in length and fall widths are between ¼” to 1”.
More experienced users usually have an idea of which length works best for them.
How many falls does a flogger have?
This varies between manufacturer/leathermaker, type of flogger, etc.
Keep in mind that falls can be made of a variety of materials, depending on the sensation you want to produce.
Falls that are flexible and cut wide deliver a thud sensation. Meanwhile, falls that are stiff and cut narrow deliver a sting sensation.
- “Thuddy” floggers tend to have between 30 to 40 falls (or “tails”).
- “Stingy” floggers tend to have over 50 falls.
Flogger Handles
The way your handle is constructed is based on personal preference.
For example, traditional floggers are made so the handle counteracts the weight of the tails. Allowing you to balance your flogger on one finger without it tipping over.
If you can’t get the flogger to rest on one of your fingers anywhere along the handle, specifically the neck, then the flogger isn’t properly balanced.
You want your floggers to be balanced to prevent unnecessary stress and fatigue on your wrists.
Next, you want to make sure your hands are comfortable holding and using the flogger.
Before picking the flogger with the “coolest” handle, make sure you like how it feels in your hands.
After holding and giving a few different handle sizes a try, you should be able to decide if you prefer handles that are thick, thin, or somewhere in between.
Why do people use floggers?
Let’s start with this: What is flogging?
Flogging is the act of inflicting physical impact on a person with a tool such as floggers (duh), whips, rods, etc.
In a historical context, flogging is most known as a punishment for committing a crime or cultural transgression.
In the BDSM community, flogging is a consensual act where a “top” inflicts impact on a willing “bottom” for a sensual experience.
The physical impact releases endorphins in the body. This gives the “bottom” a sort of high. Many would consider it to be similar to a “runner’s high”.

How do you use a flogger for beginners
How do you flog someone?
How do I choose a flogger?
Choosing a flogger that’s right for you comes down to 4 things:
- Purpose & Intention
- Proper Measurements
- Comfortable Grip
- Type of Flogger
- Flogger Design
What are the different types of floggers?
Flogger types include heavy and light, which are made with varieties of leather.
What is a heavy flogger?
A heavy flogger is an impact toy that delivers a “thud” sensation. The falls will be wider, heavier, and at a lower count.
What is a light flogger?
A light flogger is a toy you use for sensual play. Usually made of:
- Softer falls
- Feathers
- Suede Leather
Remember: The firmer the material, the more intense the impact
Suede floggers are great for giving a plush sensation. This is because of the fuzzier material.
People also make floggers out of other materials, such as rubber, metal chains, rope, etc.
Leather Flogger Handmade
I prefer my leather floggers handmade by someone I can trust.
Trust me when I say, the best toys with the best experiences are the ones you make yourself.
BUT!
If you’re not very crafty, the next best thing is to get a flogger that is custom-made for you by someone who loves their craft.
You will feel the difference and you will like it.
How do you break in a flogger?
You don’t really break in a flogger. The leathermaker is already handling the material before you get your hands on it.
That said, simply use the flogger as intended.
Where do I get my floggers?
I purchase my floggers, and other leather merch, at The Latin Everything (unavailable). I now recommend people looking for a solid flogger to get this one.
