Puppy Play is a form of animal roleplay where players act like canines during a scene.
Types of Pups and Roles
A role helps a person define what they need to do in a scene.
When it comes to puppy play, the pups are typically in a submissive role in relation to their Handler or Owner.

| Puppy | Someone who is roleplaying as a simple pup that is generally obedient and playful with their Handler. |
| Dog | A roleplayer who is more obedient and maybe less playful. It can also refer to a long-term member of the Community. |
| Pupboy / Dogboy | A person who is more submissive and is into pup play. |
| Alpha / Beta / Omega | The hierarchal pack order you might see within pup relational play dynamics. |
| Stray | Uncollared pups that don’t have a handler and are typically more independent. |
| Slavepup | Into intense play with their trusted Handler. |
| Devildog | A pup who is in the military. |
| Pigpup | A pup who is into dirtier types of play. |
| Service Dogs | Service-oriented players who are submissive. |
Types of Handlers and Roles
Although puppies greatly outnumber Handlers, they are still important because they serve as guidance within their dynamics.

Do you need a Handler or a pup for Pet Play? No. If you are a puppy without a Handler, or a Handler without a pup, that is all perfectly fine. You can still be part of pup play and enjoy the role.
