What is Impact Play in BDSM?

In this post, we quickly go over what is impact play in BDSM.

What is Impact Play in BDSM?

Impact play refers to a practice where one person is physically struck by another. There are various accessories available for impact play and the manner and force of impact can be adjusted based on personal preferences.

Flogging, whipping, caning, paddling, cropping, and spanking are common forms of impact play.

Flogging involves using special whips called floggers which have multiple strips of material. The intensity of flogging can range from gentle caresses to leaving marks on the body. The materials used in making the whip along with its strength and technique determine the sensation it delivers. Suede offers a softer feel while rubber provides sharper pain.

Whipping refers specifically to impact play using traditional whips that are generally not recommended for beginners due to their difficulty in handling and ability to leave marks or cause more intense pain.

Caning is equally intense as whipping but easier for beginners to learn if they seek a less intense experience. Impact play is a practice that involves the use of sticks. Typically made of rattan.

A type of Asian plant similar to bamboo. These sticks were historically used as a form of punishment in judicial and educational settings in various countries across Europe and Asia during the 19th and 20th centuries.

For those who prefer less intense sensations, there are two popular styles of impact play: paddling and cropping. Paddling involves using paddles to strike the partner while cropping involves using whips. The most commonly known form of impact play is spanking, which entails slapping the buttocks.

Paddling or caning is often combined with spanking as a way to administer punishment to the buttocks.
When engaging in impact play and spanking. Individuals have the freedom to choose from an array of domestic objects such as wooden spoons, hairbrushes, rulers, slippers, belts, and other utensils according to their creativity and preferences.
