Suspension Bondage is enhancing the sense of vulnerability and helplessness using equipment that suspends a person in the air.
This is a skillset that takes many years to learn hands-on and will not be learned from any publication on the internet.
Types of Suspension
Horizontal Suspension is when the person is suspended facing up or down.
Vertical Suspension is when the person is held in the air upright.
Inverted Suspension is when the person is held in the air upside down.
Suspension Equipment
You will need a hardpoint which is something from which you suspend people. Whether a ceiling bolt, suspension tripod, suspension rig, etc.
You will also need rope, suspension rings or poles, safety shears.
To see if your hardpoint is stable enough, see if human weight can swing from it without any issue.
Why do people like suspension?
There is a bonding that goes on when the Top and bottom are trusting each other and putting suspension into practice.
The bottom is tied up while still on the ground, which is an intentional experience. Initially the bottom is roped into a chest harness knot, which is anchored to the hardpoint for stability.
Suspension is a sadomasochistic play that can be meditative experience for the vulnerable bottom.
Partial suspensions are good practice. This means getting only parts of the bottom off the ground.
There is also a hip harness knotted to the sub. This will carry most of the weight and gives the bottom a floaty sensation.
The entire suspension process can take some time. It can be fatiguing for the bottom depending how they are suspended.
Suspension Bondage FAQ
What is the best rope? You can use japanese jute, hemp rope, nylon, etc.
What ropes and knots are best for quick release? Quick release is not wise since drops can hurt a lot. So your best bet is to have an experienced Top who knows how to get you out of suspension promptly and competently.
How safe is sex with suspension? Depending on the suspension, it can be done. But since suspension is fatiguing for both the Top and bottom, it’s not really a go-to activity unless planned.
Any weight limit? No.
Is there safe solo self-suspension? It’s risky, so you should really have someone around to help you; experienced supervision.
